Rangitoto from North Head navy base

1m x 1.5m - a large painting made with oil on canvas. This painting is large, and I have not painted such a large painting in a long time. Painting large scale is brave and this one was done quite fast with a large brush to achieve a smooth 'blue' background.

I had an idea when visiting North Head in Auckland, the view - and Rangitoto look magnificent. The large area of blue sea surrounding the 360 degree look out, the wind, the scale and height - I wanted to capture that feeling of freedom in a painting. And the only way I could do it, the only way I could give the volcano Rangitoto the magnificent representation and capture the feeling - was to go large.
