The beautiful 'mirror lake' of the South Island of New Zealand is one of many fresh-water lakes in the southern alps region of the South Island.  This lake is famous for its reflections with views of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman.  Its amazing reflections are due to the dark brown colour of the water - which is from organic matter coming from the surrounding ancient forest floor.   A stunning place that will never leave your heart.
